Motutapu Restoration Trust appointment
Motutapu Restoration Trust has appointed experienced conservationist Liz Brooks as Administrator for the Trust. Ms Brooks will support the Trust’s goal to restore the natural and cultural landscapes of Motutapu, New Zealand’s largest ecological restoration conservation endeavour.
Ms Brooks’ past roles have included Senior Ranger - Partnerships, Programme Manager - Biodiversity, and Senior Conservation Officer for the Department of Conservation. She has also been involved in a voluntary capacity in a number of community organisations.
“The restoration of Motutapu as predator-free home for some of our rarest native species, just 20 minutes from downtown Auckland, is a major long-term initiative of real benefit to both the Auckland region, and New Zealand,” Trust chair Hon. Christine Fletcher says.
“So much has been achieved since the Trust was founded in 1994, and as we look at what we want to achieve over the next twenty years, we are delighted to have recruited someone as experienced as Liz in conservation, public awareness advocacy, and partnership development. She will play a critical role in helping us engage more volunteers and partner organisations as the Trust continues to develop habitats for endangered species, such as takahe and the Coromandel sub-species of the North Island brown kiwi.”
