Queenstown’s award winning ways!

Queenstown’s award winning ways!

Queenstown, New Zealand (23 January 2015) – Queenstown’s world class activities and operators coupled with its outstanding natural beauty have recently earned Queenstown a collection of domestic and international accolades.

Queenstown has been voted the second most popular long haul destination for Chinese travellers, by CTRIP.com, China’s largest online travel agency (OTA). The CTRIP.com awards, held annually for the last six years, received more than 3.6 million votes this year, with Queenstown second only to Sydney in the best long haul destination for the 2015 awards.

The CTRIP.com awards honour domestic and international holiday spots based on over 50 million online reviews and feedback from CTRIP.com users, as well as the 3.6 million votes, making the awards the largest ever in history.

Queenstown hotels also took out the top three spots in the Top Hotel category of the 2015 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice™ awards for Hotels in New Zealand. Millbrook Resort, Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa and the Pounamu Apartments gained top honours, while two other Queenstown hotels The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments and Hilton Queenstown Resort and Spa were also named in the top 25.

The TripAdvisor awards highlight the world’s top properties based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from travellers around the globe.

On the domestic front, Queenstown has ranked number one coastal and lakeside destination for Kiwi travellers, according to a Wotif survey based on year on year accommodation over the summer period.

Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd was delighted with the recognition from the multiple accolades and said it was a fantastic achievement for the resort and testament to the quality experience our businesses consistently deliver.

“It’s a great acknowledgement by so many travellers from around the world and across New Zealand who find Queenstown such an inspirational destination. Our stunning scenery, world-class activities, awesome range of accommodation and award-winning food and wine make Queenstown stand out as not only New Zealand’s premier visitor destination but a top spot internationally.

“The award by CTRIP.com, the biggest OTA in China, is very powerful for the Queenstown brand. The reach of CTRIP.com is huge, so the news Queenstown has been ranked as second most popular long haul holiday destination by millions of travellers is testament to the quality of experience we deliver in Queenstown.”

The cosmopolitan resort town, famous for its spectacular scenery and huge range of world-class experiences, has previously earned international accolades from other travel authorities including being named top NZ destination and number two in the South Pacific, by TripAdvisor.
