SUMMER OF COLOUR NIGHT TALES: CHINESE NEW YEAR ORIENTAL MARKETS

The first Night Tales for the Summer of Colour 2015 season kicks off with something very special, and a little early to boot.

On Saturday 21 February, in celebration of Chinese New Year, Summer of Colour Night Tales presents a special Noodle Market running across four summer nights (Saturday to Sunday 22 February) between the hours of 6 and 10pm.

With all the colour, sounds and smells of an Asian market, this family friendly market will boast an array of food and drink stalls proffering delicacies from all of Asia, including Johney's Dumpling House (all the way from Tauranga), Yummy Thai, Viet Sandwich, and Judge Bao. The Noodle Market will feature vibrant light installations, colourful and intimate seating areas, cultural performances and live entertainment.

On Saturday 21 February, Viaduct Corner will offer up a performance from the E-PAC Lion Dance team and the Beijing Opera, and beats from local DJ Chris Cox. Drawing on the traditional dance developed during the Manchu dynasty when martial arts were forbidden in China, the E-PAC Lion Dance group share the colourful culture of China through dance.

The weekend wraps up in majestic style again with E-PAC Lion Dance team, along with traditional Chinese folk dance -- styles passed down among the many minority ethnic groups within China, as well as the popular styles of the majority Han ethnicity, like the Yang Ge, ribbon, and handkerchief dances. The evening’s beats are provided by smooth local DJ Isaac Aesili.

Watch this space, as Summer of Colour brightens up your summer in Auckland’s Viaduct Corner.
