Volunteers And Charities Soul of the Community

Volunteers And Charities Soul of the Community

Volunteers and charities in the Hutt Valley will be given a community thank you at a special afternoon tea being hosted by the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Petone Working Men’s Club on Friday, 13 March, starting at 2pm.

“They are our unsung heroes,” says Chamber CEO Mark Futter who expects a strong turn out from organisations working within the community across the valley.

“There are literally hundreds of people from sports organisations and support groups through to social and multi-cultural organisations that keep our community humming and meet the needs of people who live in the valley,” he says.

He said many chamber members are active supporters of voluntary agencies and charities providing materials and financial assistance for specific needs.

“We have a strong tradition throughout the Hutt Valley and indeed the wider Wellington Region of lending a helping hand to the communities in which we live particularly for our youth and older people,” Futter says.

There will be a maximum of four guests from each organisation for the two-hour event, a gold coin donation, and the traditional raffle with proceeds going back into the community.

“It will be a great day and a chance to acknowledge the work that is being done within the community by our volunteers,” he says.

The Hutt City and Upper Hutt City Councils who are active supporters of community groups will also be represented at the event.

Petone Working Men’s Club functions and events manager, Iain Claw says the event is an opportunity for volunteers and not for profit community organisations to meet a network.

“Volunteers and charity groups make a significant contribution to the community and the Petone Club is delighted to support the chamber and the volunteers by hosting the afternoon tea,” he says.
