Safety workshops help older drivers stay on the
road
A new series of ‘Staying Safe’ workshops during March and April will help senior drivers brush up on their road rules.
The workshops will take place in Petone and include specialised content created by the NZ Transport Agency.
Sessions target drivers aged 70+, but are relevant for other senior drivers who want to brush up on their skills.
Hutt City Council’s Road Safety Coordinator Jan Simmons, says that, “the ageing process can affect a range of skills essential to safe driving – including eyesight, memory, decision-making and reaction times.
“It’s important for all drivers, regardless of age, to regularly and honestly assess their own driving capabilities and make adjustments if necessary.
“The workshop will help drivers to do this, and to explore other transport options so they can keep their independence when the time comes to reduce the amount of driving that they do”.
The workshops will be run by Age Concern at Petone Community House on:
• Wednesday 11 March, 10.00am – 12.15pm
• Friday 20 March, 10.00am – 12.15pm
• Wednesday 29 April, 10.00am – 12.15pm
Register now through Age Concern by calling, 04 499 6646. Cost $10.00.
