Women celebrating women
Women celebrating women
The Nelson Suburban Club’s
first female president in the forty-five year history of the
club, Leigh Bromell, is asking local women to celebrate
International Women’s Day.
International Women's Day has been observed from the early 1900's. However, since 2007, the day has gained considerable momentum due to greater media attention, social networking and corporate support. It is now celebrated via wide scale activity in almost every country and many world leaders support the day with official statements.
The Nelson Suburban Club is hosting a charitable high tea on Saturday 7th March, with all proceeds donated to three local women’s focussed charitable organisations.
· Nelson Regional Breast &
Gynaecological Cancer Trust
· Nelson Women’s
Refuge
· Nelson Women’s Centre
Guests will enjoy high tea, a charity auction and short inspirational talks from women of influence within the Nelson/Tasman community.
· Judene Edgar -
Councillor, TDC
· Alison Boswijk - International
Projects Manager, World of Wearable Art
· Dot
Kettle - CEO, Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce
·
Cathy Ewing - Principal, Nelson College for Girls
·
Annette Milligan - Director, INP Medical Clinic
Leigh Bromell says, “I think it’s really important that the club marks this International Day, when the club was founded women could not enter on their own. Thankfully we’ve come a long way since then, and women now make up a large percentage of our membership.” She continues, “We are so lucky in the Nelson Tasman region to have women that inspire and give back to their community, and that’s what this day and our event is all about, women celebrating and supporting one another.”
The charitable high tea,
takes place on Saturday 7th March at The Nelson Suburban
Club, tickets cost $5 each (this goes directly to the
supported charities), and are available from The Nelson
Suburban Club and Eventbrite.
