Heroes and Villains, Zero Emissions,
Forget Inhibitions!

#LeadingTheCharge Team to Compete in the King Koil™ Great Auckland Bed Race at Auckland’s Domain this Sunday, March 22nd as the First of Many Fundraising Initiatives!

For the past three months, many Kiwis have seen the #LeadingTheCharge electric vehicles (EVs) and supporters in towns and cities all over the country.

Over several years, this grass roots movement has grown in numbers and momentum. The community has been self-sustaining and has not received any public or corporate funding for their work so far.

Steve West, Carl Barlev, Nick Smith and Jay Davis took time out of their schedules this summer to go on an epic EV road trip from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Donations of T-shirts, offers of food and accommodation and wonderful filming and networking opportunities were generously offered to the team.

2015 is the year that #LeadingTheCharge has recognised that it must begin fundraising to be able to continue sharing their cars and enthusiasm about EV and engaging in speeding up the arrival of EV here in NZ through:

• Charging – We need more private and public charging infrastructure for EVs. Electric Vehicle ownership and use is perfect for New Zealand commuters as they can charge a car in the garage while they sleep, and save thousands of dollars annually by doing so. The roll-out of a nation-wide charging corridor is high on the list of priorities for the #LeadingTheCharge community, and will enable EV owners to drive all over NZ easily.
• Driving – getting as many people as possible to ride in or drive EVs. The driver experience in an EV is quiet, responsive, clean and fun.
• Teaching – educating New Zealanders on the many benefits of EV ownership for individual households, businesses, and New Zealand in general.

The King Koil™ Bed Race is a fun, family friendly and dry event. #LeadingTheCharge will publicly disclose how much has been earned and exactly where they will spend it for this, and all future fundraising initiatives.
