Last of the Season of Night Markets

Press Release – for immediate release

Last of the Season of Night Markets

The season of the Hastings City Night Market is shortly coming to an end. April 2nd will see the final Night Market until October 1st when it will re-open for business with a bang. The last three Night Markets will be celebratory in style and it’s expected that the community will embrace the last of the warmer, light evenings before hunkering down for darker and colder months ahead.

This week’s market will boast an ‘Equine’ theme to coincide with the Horse of the Year show in Hastings, and will be part of the ‘HOY in the City’ celebrations. Miniature ponies will be on hand for some serious petting and the HOY information box will be central to the market for ticketing and info about Horse of the Year events. Taking to the central stage for the evening is the popular and energetic rock act, ‘Generator’ - a 5-piece band with a huge sound playing favourite covers from the likes of Queen, The Black Keys and Pink. Child Cancer will in our community tent for their annual collection and Hope Jewellery will have a make-your-own ‘Pandora style’ jewellery stall with some horse-themed charms in aid of Canteen and Henna Tattoo’s will also be available from the ladies at Plunket. Diverse street food stalls will be lining the leafy boulevards of the Mall catering for every palate, serving up a delicious supper for all.

While the Night Market is closed, the Hastings City Business Association, who run the event, will be getting their heads down for some serious preparation and planning for a bigger and better Night Market re-launch. Susan McDade from the Association said “The Night Market is such a popular event with our local community and visitors alike and we want to make sure it just gets better and better. It’s a wonderful melting pot of food, family and friends; an ideal spot to meet up, have supper and catch some free entertainment on a warm, weekday evening.”

The one Night Market to break through the chillier winter months is of course Matariki, on Thursday 18th June. This unique night market will celebrate and embrace this cultural event with light displays, cultural dances and fire poi and of course complementary Food and Arts & Crafts stalls.
