Truck vs Car, Waioeka Gorge
Truck vs Car, Waioeka Gorge
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched at approximately 9pm last night to a car v truck accident on SH2 at Opato Bridge, in the Waioeka Gorge south of Opotiki.
Tauranga’s Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was also in attendance. Both helicopters landed at Opotiki Airfield due to the known risk of wires that criss-cross the gorge road and the patients where transported to them by road ambulance.
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew a 49 year old Hamilton woman to Waikato Hospital. The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopters flew the male truck passenger to Tauranga Hospital and the truck driver went by road ambulance to Whakatane Hospital.
Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was used as Gisborne helicopter was unable to fly due to the low cloud over the ranges and Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was already tasked to another mission.
Please direct enquiries regarding the accident to NZ Police.
