Interim Transport Levy Yet Another Targeted Rate
Interim Transport Levy Yet Another Targeted Rate
The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is slamming the reported proposal from Auckland Mayor Len Brown for a new transport levy and is labelling it 'a shattered promise'.
Reacting to the Fairfax and NZ Herald reports, ARA Spokesperson, Jo Holmes, says:
"Mr Brown promised to cap rates at 2.5 percent, but is now just introducing new ones. That's not leadership, that's spin and ratepayers will see right through it."
"A 'few dollars a week’ for this new targeted rate may not be much for Len Brown, but for those already struggling with their rates bill, another hundred dollars plus a year is salt in the wound."
"Add this ‘few dollars a week’ to the new charges for rubbish and recycling, and other user-pays such as water charges, no wonder Aucklanders are feeling rates distress."
"We all agree that Auckland needs new transport infrastructure. But rather than eliminate the Super City's waste and inefficiency, Mr Brown expects us to simply pay more and ignore the constant headlines about his Council wasting our money. Where's the leadership in that?”
