Fatal MVA near Bulls
Fatal MVA near Bulls
The Palmerston North based Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a serious MVA on S.H.3 west of Bulls this afternoon whilst returning to Palmerston North from a previous job at Wanganui Hospital. It is understood that two cars collided head-on resulting in two fatalities at the scene. Marton and Bulls Fire Brigades used cutting gear to remove other trapped occupants from the wrecked vehicles and assisted in marshaling the helicopter into the scene.
Once removed from the wreckage a Palmerston North lady, in her 60's, was stabilised by the on-board St John Ambulance Intensive Care Para-medic before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with life threatening injuries.
The rescue Helicopter was used due to the seriousness of the accident and the distance to hospital.
Philips Search and Rescue Trust is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter service has been made possible through the generosity of community donations. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient.
