Commuters urged to stay in town

North-bound commuters are being advised to stay where they are as warnings of increased flooding are issued and multiple transport failures are occurring across the region.

Several bands of rain are forecast to sweep across the region between now and 7.00 pm tonight causing further issues for people trying to get home on already gridlocked roads.

High tides in Porirua and on the Kapiti Coast are due at 7.00 pm tonight when the flooding is expected to peak.
