Stranded commuters may need to make overnight arrangements
Stranded commuters are advised
to talk to their workmates or friends and family about
staying with them over night.
With multiple road
closures north of Wellington, including State Highway 2, and
the rail network closed for the rest of the day, commuters
are advised to make arrangements to stay where they are, if
possible
Wellington Regional Management Office Group
Controller Bruce Pepperell says more rain is expected and
all endeavours should be made to keep off the
roads.
“Now might be a good time to get to know your work mates a bit better,” he says. “Keep an ear on the radio and visit the emergency office website and facebook page (facebook.com/WREMOnz and www.getprepared.org)”
People should check their household emergency plan and get away kit. If you live near rivers you are advised to be prepared to evacuate quickly if it becomes necessary.
Stay out of floodwaters because of potential sewage contamination and electrical danger.
