SCIRT Traffic update Queen’s Birthday and from 2 June, 2015

Christchurch Marathon, central city, Sunday, 31 May

If you are travelling from one side of the city to the other on Sunday, use the Four Aves, but bear in mind there are restrictions on Fitzgerald and Deans Aves during the marathon.

FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 – busy afternoons

Christchurch City Council is encouraging fans to plan ahead heading towards Addington for these games. The first matches for Christchurch of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 are on Monday, 1 June at Christchurch Stadium, Addington, starting at 1pm with Germany taking on Fiji and Uzbekistan playing Honduras at 4pm.

There is no venue parking at Christchurch Stadium for the matches and parking is limited in the area. Use Metro www.metroinfo.co.nz, walk, cycle and/or check out where you will park ahead of timewww.tfc.govt.nz/parking.

There will be increased traffic in the Addington area during peak hour times on Thursday 4 June,Thursday 11 June and Wednesday 17 June for games. Avoid Lincoln Road, Whiteleigh Ave, Blenheim Rd and the surrounding areas during afternoon peak times and consider using alternative routes like the southern motorway.

Police Station building implosion Sunday evening 5 pm

Due to the implosion of the former Police Station on Sunday 31 May at 5pm, some roads will be closed to secure an exclusion zone around the planned work.

From Sunday 31st May 4pm - 7pm:

• Cambridge Tce from Worcester Blvd to Cashel St

• Oxford Tce from Worcester Blvd to Cashel St

• Hereford St from Montreal St to Oxford Tce

• Cashel St from Montreal St to Oxford Tce

CENTRAL CITY NEWS

St Asaph St, Central City

One lane is closed on St Asaph St between Durham and Montreal. SCIRT’s Downer team wastewater repair work will run for another three weeks.

Madras Street, Central City

SCIRT is currently doing road repairs on Madras St, the one-way northbound. During this work Madras St, between Armagh Street and Kilmore Street will be reduced to one lane. Traffic is likely to build up during peak times in this area.

SUBURBS

Aranui, Wainoni – take care driving along Pages and Wainoni Roads

The SCIRT team is making good progress along Pages Road installing the pressure main pipe from Shuttle Drive to Bexley Reserve. The crew will soon be at the intersection of Pages Road and Breezes Road.

From Monday 8 June, for about four weeks, Breezes Rd southbound will be closed at the intersection with Pages Road. Detours will be in place via Pages Road – Shortland Street – Lenton Street – Breezes Road.

Two-way traffic will return to Pages Road, between Bickerton Street and Shortland Street, this Saturday 30 May for about five weeks.

Aldwins Road, Linwood, heading towards Ferry Road

SCIRT’s Downer team will be stabilising the ground around the big pressure wastewater pipe running along Aldwins Road from Tuesday, 2 June, for a month. Two-way traffic will continue but there will be no right hand turn onto Harrow St for drivers going south towards Ferry Road.

Marriotts Road/Rookwood Ave, North New Brighton

On Tuesday, 2 June, Rookwood Ave will be closed between the Keyes Road roundabout to Marriotts Road while road repair work is carried out. There will be a detour in place via Bowhill Road, Palmers Road and Bower Ave. This work had to be rescheduled due to a machine breakdown.

Sparks Road, Hoon Hay – watch for children

Sparks Road is one-way, westbound only from Hoon Hay Road/the BP station towards Maryhill Ave.The detour route for city-bound drivers is Maryhill Ave off Sparks Road. There are two schools in the area, so please watch for children.

Hills Road, Edgeware – northbound between Dudley and Guild St

Drivers heading into town along Hills Road, south of Shirley Road, expect to follow a detour for the next few weeks along Guild, Slater and Dudley streets, with restrictions on turns onto Hills Road and Dudley Street.

Bridge Street/Estuary Road roundabout, South Brighton
The finishing touches will be put on the Bridge Street/Estuary Road roundabout in South New Brighton from 2 June. A stop/go system will be in place when needed. Please allow extra time for trips around the roundabout.

Coming up 8 June

Lake Terrace Road, Burwood and Bassett St update

Wastewater repair and road closure for up to four months.

Although Lake Terrace Road will be closed for a wastewater repair between New Brighton Road and Burwood Road for up to four months, Bassett St will be open to two-way traffic then and will be the detour route.

Uh oh. Bird flu – often deadly to humans - is not only being transmitted from infected birds to dairy cows, but is now travelling between dairy cows.
