Open Letter to Len Brown
Open Letter to Len Brown
Dear Len,
Following the vote by Auckland Council to impose a 4% Transport Levy on top of this year’s rates increase, the media has reported outrage by Auckland ratepayers, many of whom feel that while they may have been consulted on the city’s plan for transport, they certainly were not consulted on whether they were willing to pay higher rates to fund it.
On June 10 2015 at the Mt. Eden War Memorial Hall, there will be a public meeting on the rates issue to give Aucklanders the opportunity to express how they feel about the rates increases. As the only two candidates who have so far said we will be contesting the Mayoralty in 2016, we will both be part of a line-up of speakers who will give our view on Auckland rates before those attending are given the opportunity to make their opinion heard.
In the interests of fairness and transparency, we both believe it is only fair the current Mayor also have the opportunity to tell ratepayers why he has chosen to proceed with this rates increase. That’s why we are both inviting you to also be a speaker at the meeting on June 10.
Yours sincerely
Stephen Berry
and Penny Bright
