Kayakers rescued from Tongariro river

The Taupo Based Greenlea Rescue helicopter was dispatched to The Tongariro River last night.

Three Kayakers had been reported as overdue from a outing.

The greenlea helicopter was able to locate the missing trio on the river bank,in a steep sided gorge with the use of night vision goggles.

The loss of a paddle, or paddles, resulted in a slower than anticipated trip downstream, before darkness halted their progress completely for the night.

Once located the uninjured party were hover loaded into the Helicopter and flown to Turangi.
