Abstaining Councillors Should Step Aside
TUESDAY 23 JUNE 2015
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is labelling the Auckland Councillors who want to abstain rather than support, or reject Len Brown's proposed 10-year budget and 9.9% rates hike, as ‘gutless’. Spokesperson, Jo Holmes says:
“Aucklanders elected Councillors to take a stand one way or another, not run away from the biggest decision in this term. They should stand with Len Brown in increasing rates by 9.9%, stop him, or stand down.”
“Sitting on the fence on what is the largest political issue in Auckland right now isn’t political leadership, it’s gutless.”
Councillors the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance understand are refusing to disclose how they will vote, or are planning to abstain:
1. Cathy Casey
2. Ross Clow
3. Mike Lee
4. Wayne Walker
5. John Watson
