SkyPath’s Resource Consent decision
SkyPath’s Resource Consent decision
The SkyPath Trust welcomes the decision to grant resource consent for SkyPath.
AHB Pathway Trustee and Project Director Bevan Woodward says “The hearing process was very thorough and the report issued today by the four independent Commissioners shows that they carefully considered all the submissions.
This is a robust decision that gives us confidence to move forward. In conjunction with our funders, we are now signing up to a Memorandum of Understanding to appoint Downer as the delivery partner for SkyPath.
SkyPath has been a community led project but we could not have done this without the support of Auckland Council, Waterfront Auckland, NZTA and Auckland Transport. We are very grateful to the politicians who have supported SkyPath, in particular Mayor Len Brown, and Councillors Mike Lee and Chris Darby.”
SkyPath Trust’s chairperson Christine Rose says "Aucklanders have been waiting for 55 long years to get across the Auckland Harbour Bridge by foot and by bike, and I'm sure they will join with the SkyPath Trust in celebrating the granting of resource consent to allow this to finally happen."
We're confident SkyPath will deliver long term economic, health, environmental and social benefits for New Zealanders for decades to come."
"This process has been incredibly robust and has stood up to every test, of which there have been many. What we do know, and Commissioners have confirmed with their Resource Consent decision, is that this project's benefits are regionally significant but the wider adverse effects are no more than minor."
"It is a game changer for Auckland as a fully accessible city, and all Auckland will benefit from this 'next step' on the SkyPath across."
Andy Smith, a SkyPath Trustee and Living Streets Aotearoa president says “SkyPath is a great link for Auckland to connect communities through walking and cycling. Living Streets Aotearoa has been a long- time supporter of this project and celebrates this great path.”
