Additional work approved for Town Hall and Events Centre

Additional work approved for Town
Hall and Events Centre
Approval for an increase in project costs to complete the upgrade and strengthening of the historic Town Hall, and the building of a new Events Centre, was received at a full Council meeting last night.
Council approved up to $2.9 million in additional project costs. The majority of these costs are for unforeseen but essential foundation work, after geotechnical investigations revealed that ground conditions beneath the historic Town Hall are poorer than anticipated.
The additional budget also includes items identified during the detailed design phase of the project, such as cladding, glazing, and interior finishes.
The new Event Centre development will create a flexible, multi-use facility that caters to the whole community and will boost the vibrancy of central Lower Hutt.
