Region welcomes sheep and beef
announcement
Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy visited the Horizons Region today to launch the first collaborative programme between Central Government and regional stakeholders resulting from the Regional Growth Study.
Horizons Regional Council chairman and member of the Regional Growth Study Lead Team, Bruce Gordon, says the Sheep and Beef Land Productivity Programme presents a real opportunity to harness the skills of farmers, processors and research in the Region.
“The sheep and beef sector is at the heart of our regional economy. This was highlighted in the Regional Growth Study and it’s pleasing to see Central Government responding so quickly to develop the potential of this sector,” Mr Gordon says.
“As a region, we are working to establish our implementation structure for all eight opportunities identified in the Study and this programme aligns closely with that process.
“Our farmers have faced trying times recently and we welcome the Minister’s commitment to breaking down barriers and driving growth in the sector.”
