Dave Dobbyn to sing at Napier's Christmas at the Park

Dave Dobbyn to sing at Napier's Christmas at the Park

Singer and Kiwi icon Dave Dobbyn is the headline act at this year’s Cox Partners Christmas at the Park.

“We are privileged and very excited to be able to bring Dave Dobbyn to Christmas at the Park,” says event organizer David Trim of Kaisen Charitable Trust.

“When it comes to Kiwi music, Dave Dobbyn is as iconic as you can get. We are simply thrilled to be able to bring such a treasured entertainer to Hawkes Bay for everyone to enjoy at absolutely no cost to them. A huge thank you must go to New World Greenmeadows, which is sponsoring Dave's appearance at the event."

Local schools will also be performing a couple of songs on stage with Dave, as well as operatic group Project Prima Volta. Other entertainment lined up includes an hour of Christmas carols and the unique pyrotechnics display, which has become one of the most popular parts of the event.

This year’s Cox Partners Christmas at the Park will be held on Saturday 12 December at Anderson Park, Napier.

“Logistically and financially it is a huge undertaking to run this event. The budget is $95,000 and with no ticket or alcohol sales to help with the costs, we must rally our local businesses and supporting trusts to share the financial burden,” says David.

“We are fortunate to have so many businesses that agree this is a great community event and sponsor us to ensure Christmas at the Park remains alive.”

Two hundred volunteers are required to produce and run the night, with community groups like Rotary, Lions, churches and schools all adding to the experience.

The Anderson Park event is the only free Christmas concert of its size in Hawkes Bay and David is adamant in keeping it free to enter.

“It’s a great way for people of all walks of life to gather together and celebrate Christmas as a community. It’s a rare opportunity to see a nationally recognised artist in a wonderful park setting for free,” says David.

Gordon Campbell: On Why An Attack On Iran Is Back On The Agenda

Reportedly, Christopher Luxon has the edge on Simon Bridges in National’s leadership contest although there is no firm evidence for that hunch. So, one hesitates about joining a media echo chamber that amplifies Luxon’s chances ahead of the 3pm caucus meeting today. You know how it goes: Luxon doesn’t quite have the numbers, so his people start talking to the media to make him seem like the smart bet. Or even perhaps: Luxon hasn't got the numbers, and his people start talking to the media to talk up his support so that he gets a nicer consolation prize... More>>
