Sister City delegation visits Hawke’s Bay
Environmental protection and wastewater treatment are the focus for a Chinese delegation visiting Hawke’s Bay tomorrow (Friday 9 October).
The group is from the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s sister city, Xuzhou in China and will be hosted by the Council’s Manager of Resource Use, Wayne Wright.
They will visit the Napier City Council’s wastewater treatment plant, which was commissioned in August last year. The biological trickling filter plant treats about 20,000 litres of domestic wastewater each day.
The delegation will then travel to PekaPeka Wetland where they will be given an overview on the value of wetlands and an insight into how the PekaPeka wetland was restored.
After lunch the group will visit Te Karamu Stream Project and look at the perspective of Maori who live there, the restoration of native vegetation and improvement of fish habitat.
Before leaving Hawke’s Bay the delegation will take a short trip up Te Mata Peak.
The sister city relationship between the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Xuzhou was first developed nine years ago.
