Cars crash at Lake Rotoiti
At approximately 9.30pm on Sunday night the Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was despatched to the scene of a 2 vehicle accident on State Highway 38, Lake Rotoiti (25 km NE of Rotorua).
Ambulance & NZ Fire Rescue were also on site with the Fire Service crews setting up a landing area in the local school for the helicopter to land in.
Three people sustained injuries from the heavy impact which tore one of the vehicles into two.
One man, a 20 year old local man, was stabilised by the St John’s Intensive Care paramedic flown out by the helicopter before he was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital by the flight crew wearing Night Vision Goggles. He sustained suspected spinal injuries. He was in a comfortable condition upon arrival.
Two other patient were transported by St John Ambulance to Rotorua Hospital.
