Wanaka to Host Chef Nick Honeyman

WANAKA TO HOST CHEF NICK HONEYMAN’S LE PETIT LEON FRENCH RESTAURANT

Following a sell-out summer season in the South of France, chef Nick Honeyman is bringing his restaurant Le Petit Leon to Wanaka in January for four nights only.

Found in small village of St Leon sur Vezere in Dordogne, Nick is a co-owner of Le Petit Leon which opens for only nine weeks every summer. South African born Nick has plied his trade in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and France. He’s worked in renowned three Michelin star institutions Arpège and Astrance in Paris, at Becasse in Sydney and Auckland’s French Café, before becoming Executive chef at The Commons and Everybodys Izakaya both in the city of sails.

Announcing Le Petit Leon Wanaka Nick says he’s thrilled to have the opportunity to be based in the heart of Central Otago and make the most of the region’s bountiful summer produce. “Nothing beats cooking with fresh, seasonal produce. Wanaka provides so many opportunities in summer – from local merino, to freshly caught lake trout, summer berries, cherries and stonefruit, honey and even lavender. I can’t wait to incorporate these into a tasting menu for friends to enjoy over long Central Otago evenings.”

At Le Petit Leon I use the best produce from the region, collecting the ingredients from the market each morning. It’s high energy and simple food using the best ingredients and it is this experience and flavour I will bring to Wanaka.
