All Blacks’ Auckland Homecoming Celebration
All Blacks’ Auckland Homecoming Celebration
Aucklanders will be the first New Zealanders to welcome home the world champion All Blacks with the Webb Ellis Cup when the team and the cup make their way to Victoria Park tomorrow.
The All Blacks will depart at 11.45am and journey along Hobson Street, turning right into Victoria Street West and then Halsey Street before making their grand entrance into the park where fans will have the opportunity to welcome them as they walk along the specially created access way through Victoria Park to the stage.
It’s expected that fans will watch the team travel along Victoria Street West before walking to Victoria Park to welcome the All Blacks.
Fans in Victoria Park should secure their prime spots early. Big screens will be positioned either side of the stage and speakers will be around the park to ensure the maximum number of supporters can see and hear what’s going on. An accessible area is available to the right of the stage.
The audience will be entertained by some of New Zealand’s top performers from 11am. The team will be welcomed home with a karanga, and receive a haka from Auckland Grammar, Mt Albert Grammar and Auckland Girls Grammar, before being congratulated for their outstanding efforts by Mayor Len Brown.
“This will be a very special event as thousands of Aucklanders welcome the All Blacks home and congratulate them on a unique achievement – back to back Rugby World Cups.
“Winning away from home was a momentous achievement and I am sure Aucklanders who supported the team during the tournament will turn out in huge numbers to see their heroes and I urge people to allow plenty of time to travel to what will be an extraordinary occasion”, he said.
