Multiple Patients After Two Vehicle Accidents

Multiple Patients After Two Vehicle Accidents

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to two motor vehicle accidents in quick succession last night.

Both accidents occurred in south Waikato, the first on SH3, south of Piopio at around 4:30pm. It was reported that two vehicles had collided and a 50 year old New Plymouth man and his wife both sustained multiple injuries.

Due to the nature of their injuries both the man and woman where airlifted by the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Waikato Hospital.

The second accident involved a single vehicle which had crashed at about 6pm. The accident site was north of Otorohanga and it was reported that the car had left the road and crashed down an embankment.

A Te Kuiti family of five, were travelling in the vehicle and all suffered a range of injuries from minor to moderate. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported three of the family, one being a 46 year old and two 19 year olds to Waikato Hospital.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was required in both accidents for rapid transportation from a remote location, ensuring hospital treatment was received in the quickest possible time. In the second accident the helicopter was also used for its ability to transport multiple patients at one time.

Philips Search and Rescue Trust (PSRT) is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations. Special thanks to Waikato King Country's principal sponsor, Westpac. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient. For further information about PSRT visit our website http://rescue.org.nz.
