Kapiti Run for Youth turns on an awesome day for youth

The Web Genius Kapiti Run for Youth (KR4Y) took place on Sunday 8 November. “The weather dawned partly cloudy with a reasonably warm northerly blowing as predicted but it did not dampen the spirits of those that participated – it was a truly awesome day”, said Richard Calkin of Web Genius.

“The participants on the day were diverse with individuals and groups made-up of mums, dads, grandparents and many kids and dogs – everyone was really happy and out for some fun on the Kapiti Coast beach front while raising money for Kapiti youth”, says Helene Judge, Campaign Manager, KR4Y.

Winners on the day were:
1. 12km run – Lucy Townsend
2. 6km run – Caleb Lopez-Sanchez
3. 12km walk – Jack McAllister
4. 6km walk – Steve Jandrell

Richard says, “I am very proud of the work that the Committee does behind the scenes to pull this event off – my thanks go to Terry Poko of Youth Quest, Richard van Eck of Low Tax Accounting, Peter Jackson of Peter Jackson Plumbing and Helene Judge of Kapiti Business Projects. The team are aligned to the importance of positive youth in our community and believe that getting out and participating in an event such as this is meaningful, fun, healthy and they are confident of its sustainability as an event.”

Helene goes on to say, “it’s too early to say how much money we have raised as sponsorship is still coming in online and in cash. To sponsor a group or an individual that participated go to our web site and donate securely with your credit card,www.kapitirunforyouth.co.nz. We will keep everyone posted on the final amount raised and then we look forward to handing over 80% of what was raised to Youth Quest and participating fundraising partners.”
