Popular Pixie Town Opening Soon
Dunedin (Friday, 27 November 2015) – Christmas arrives at Toitū Otago Settlers Museum when Pixie Town opens on Saturday, 5 December.
The exhibition features popular mechanical ‘pixies’, which were displayed at the former Dunedin DIC department store until it closed in the late 1980s.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the historic exhibition, visit Santa and have their photo taken, make Christmas crafts, dress up like a pixie or relax with a Christmas book.
The Toitū OSM team are working hard to prepare the exhibit for another busy season.
Visitor Experience Manager Kirsty Glengarry says, "It’s a highlight of the Museum year to exhibit Pixie Town and it’s such a Dunedin icon. I have heard lots of people fondly recalling their experience of Pixie Town as children and I know they all bring their own children back to visit the pixies."
There will be a special beginning to Pixie Town this year when a child will push a switch at 10am on Saturday, 5 December to formally open the exhibition.
Pixie-themed items will be available in the Museum shop and traditional toys are on sale. There will also be a Family Christmas Chill-Out Zone with Christmas crafts, toys, dress-ups and more.
