Nine Missions Over Four Days

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter has carried out nine life-saving missions over the last four days.

On Friday the helicopter was called out on three separate occasions to locations around the Waikato and the Coromandel Peninsula. The first patient was a 52 year old male who was flown urgently from Putaruru to Waikato Hospital as a result of a cardiac event.

The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was quickly dispatched for a critical ICU transfer, followed later in the day by a mission to Whangamata to retrieve a female in her 80’s who had suffered a medical condition at home.

On Saturday the helicopter was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident at Atiamuri.

The weekend continued to be busy with three Sunday missions, the first being a New Born Unit transfer from Rotorua Hospital to Waikato Hospital. The second and third missions where ICU transfers from Taranaki Base Hospital and Whakatane Hospital both to Waikato Hospital. Both patients where transferred to receive specialist care.

Today the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter has attended two separate accidents. The first to attend a 66 year old male who took a fall while working at a local school. He was airlifted to Waikato Hospital for treatment. The helicopter was then dispatched to Maramarua to transport a female patient to Waikato Hospital. The women sustained injuries in a car accident where she was trapped for over an hour while NZ Fire Service personnel used cutting equipment to free her.
