Blackbridge Environmental Protection Society

Press Release from Blackbridge Environmental Protection Society

Norsho Bulc has been put on notice that it faces massive public opposition to its proposed managed fill in Dairy Flat after a massive 196 objections were sent to Auckland Council by local residents.

The company wants to create a 10ha managed fill operation in Blackbridge Road, a quiet country lane off Dairy Flat Highway between Coatesville and Silverdale in Rodney.

Objections to the company’s 10-year plan, which does not comply with current land use rules for the district, include serious safety concerns over 240 heavy truck movements 6 days a week, risks of contamination to the land and waterways, risks of an accident on the road’s single lane bridge, and to people using the road which has no footpath or street lighting.

Warwick Hojem, Chairman of the Blackbridge Road Protection Society says: "Given the very short lead-in time for the community to respond by the December 4 deadline, we are absolutely overwhelmed at the number of objections to the proposed managed fill.

"Norsho Bulc must be shaking in their boots and have real concerns that their obscene plan for Blackbridge Road is in jeopardy."

Hojem says that while the campaign against the managed fill has got off to a fantastic start, the real work to stopping Norsho Bulc has only just begun.

"It is one thing for every concerned resident to voice their objection and demand to be heard at the official council hearing into the proposal - it is quite another to make those voices be understood by officials," says Hojem

"Norsho Bulc has hired a team of experts to prepare their argument in favour of the plan. We need to present our case against the plan using the same level of expertise. This will be expensive, but the funds are now rolling in because every resident interested in preserving their little slice of paradise in Dairy Flat understands what needs to be done.

"However, our war chest still needs to be built up and any money not used by our campaign will be used for the benefit of the environmental projects in the area."

"We have set up a trust account to receive donations, details on how to donate are contained on the Societies website blackbridge.weebly.com."

Hojem says while it is early days, the society is feeling extremely confident and looking forward to presenting its case against Norsho Bulc in 2016.
