Freestyle Motorcross To Return To 2016 Northland Field Days

People heading to the Northland Field Days from March 3 to 5 can look forward to the return of a popular, high-octane favorite event say organisers with exciting demonstrations and big travel prizes also on offer.

The Northland Field Days has invited back the popular Freestyle New Zealand freestyle motorcross team to perform four 15-20 minute shows a day on Friday and Saturday.

Made up of Andrew Jackson from Gore, Stewart Ewing from Gore and Alex Bennet from Keumeu considered to be the top four riders in New Zealand, the group entertains around 200,000 New Zealander's each year at shows including the Parachute Festival, the Royal Easter Show and the International Monster Truck Tour.

Freestyle New Zeland company director and stunt rider Neil Dempsey says riders take off from ramps before performing maneuvers including the superman, 360, whip, and backflip three stories high in the air.

Northland Field Days president Lew Duggan is thrilled to have the team back again after such a successful showing in 2014 where riders drew big crowds.

“Watching riders perform stunts high over tents was definitely a thrill for me,” says Mr Duggan. “I’m sure anybody who attend the Northland Field Days will agree.”

Freestyle motorcross riders aren’t the only thrilling late addition to the event say organisers with a thrilling gate prize being put up on offer.

Iplex Pipelines and Stronghold Trading Limited have worked together to offer a $2500 travel package organisers plan to give away to one lucky Northland Field Days attendee.

Organisers say visitors can also enjoy exciting demonstrations from the Northland Rescue Helicopter and Dargaville Fire Brigade.

Held in Dargaville, two and a half hours Northwest of Auckland, 40 minutes west of Whangarei and one hour South of Kaikohe the Northland Field Days is a fun three day event from March 3 to March 5. Free parking is available close to showgrounds with regular public transport running to and from the event.

Head along to the Trutest site get yourself weighed and go into the draw to win your weight in meat.
Saturday
Quad skills
Competitors take turns getting a quad and trailer around an obstacle course in the fastest time possible. It doesn't matter if you come from the town, the country or a city you can take part in this event that is open to anybody above the age of 16.
Logger Sports competition
Logging workers from all over Northland and New Zealand have gathered at the Northland Field Days for more than 20 years to take part in this competition.
A highly popular spectator event the logger sports competition begins on Saturday at 9AM and goes on through the day.
Four-man teams from as far south as Tokoroa travel up to take part in the competition competing in one of four events.

Sheep, Dogs and Logs To Feature at 2016 Northland Field Days

Sheep dog trials and the ever-popular logging sports competitions will be highlights at this years Northland Field Days from March 3 to 5 in Dargaville say organisers.

Exhibitors and the events committee has been working overtime to search for more new events than ever according to Northland Field Days president who says visitors who travel to the event in Dargaville between March 3-5 won’t be short of events to watch and take part in.

Logger sports promises to be especially exciting this year according to event organiser Carl Bowman who says the area allocated for the event has grown to accommodate a wider range of activities and a bigger competitor list.

Competition will be heating up in the log loading event says Bowman with 10 operators lining up, double the number attending last year.

In the event, competitors take turns to unload and reload a trailer unit of logs with an excavator purpose built for forestry work.

While visitors were thrilled with the spectacle last year Bowman expects this year to be at another level with more operators, bigger logs and a larger loading area. "It’ll be exciting for anybody attending the event on Saturday."

Bowman also expects a larger field of competitors to thrill visitors when they turn up to the main logger sports event, with athletes trying their hand at everything from chainsaw racing to wood chopping.

"On Saturday the crowds definitely turn up, especially when the races are on."

Sheepdog trial organisers are excited about this year’s event too and expect around 60 dogs to take part in a line-up featuring some of New Zealand’s brightest and best dog trialists.

Past New Zealand champions Murray Child, Kenny Whittaker, Scott McCray, Ian McKinnon Alan Nisbett and Neville Child are all likely to take to the starting point as is last year’s New Zealand handy dog champion Duncan Gilligan.

However, New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association president Chris Robertson is pleased to see a growing number of females taking part in the sport. "I expect Anna Blair and Erin Ball, both exciting competitors in their own right to take part in the competition."

A special effort has been made to cater to families according to Northland Field Days president Lew Duggan who says the Northland Field Days Committee has collected together a large number of events and attractions for kids of all ages.

Events include clydesdale rides, digital trap shooting, sheep races a petting zoo and more.

"The events committee has outdone themselves this year," says Mr Duggan. "Anybody travelling to Daragaville between March 3 and 5 will severely miss out if they don’t attend the Northland Field Days."
