Hypoglycaemia, Matiere
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched Matiere, west of Taumarunui, late last night, to retrieve a 72-year old woman who experienced a collapse due to critically low blood sugar. After being treated at the scene, she was flown to Waikato Hospital, for further evaluation and treatment.
She was accompanied on the flight by her husband. The helicopter was employed because the distance and remoteness of the area, combined with rapidly deteriorating weather, would have incurred a protracted ground transport, potentially further complicating the medical situation.
