New Development West Coast CEO appointed

Development West Coast chairman John Sturgeon is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Chris Mackenzie.

Chris Mackenzie has had a long involvement with DWC, having helped set up the organisation, then known as The West Coast Development Trust. He was the Government Appointed Trustee on the Interim West Coast Development Trust and more recently was involved in the review of the Trust Deed and DWC’s ten year Strategic Plan.

Mr Mackenzie is currently a Senior Advisor with the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, involved with the implementation group of CERA, and the Independent Chair of the Horizontal Infrastructure Governance Group, responsible for setting the priorities for the infrastructure rebuild.

John Sturgeon says he is delighted Mr Mackenzie has agreed to join DWC.

“Since the resignation of the previous Chief Executive, Trustees have been involved in a search exercise to find a replacement. Chris Mackenzie is well qualified for the position, he is known to DWC and has a unique knowledge of the organisation and how it operates,” he says.

Mr Mackenzie says he is looking forward to working with DWC. “I have had a long relationship with the Trust and look forward to the new role. My first few months in the job will involve driving the length of the West Coast talking to councils, business people and industry groups,” he says.

Mr Sturgeon says upcoming local body elections mean there will be potential changes in Trustees over the next eighteen month to two-year period. “This appointment is seen to be of a short term nature, to assist DWC through any transitional issues that may occur,” he says.

Mr Mackenzie will start with DWC on 18 May 2016.
