Whakatu Awa Earthworks Scheduled
Earthworks for part of the Whakatu Landscape and Awa Enhancement project are scheduled to start on Tuesday 29 March and take around 3 days.
The Whakatu community, HBRC and Hastings District Council have developed the enhancement plan which is being done in stages. Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will be creating a 3 metre wide bench on HBRC owned land, extending down to around 1 metre from the average water level in the stream. This will improve access for maintenance and more enhancement planting.
The work also forms a foundation for a future pathway to be constructed by Hastings District Council along the stream between Essex Park and Avison Lane.
