ARA Calls on the Property Council to Cease Sock-Puppetry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Ratepayers’ Alliance is alarmed to learn that the amount paid by Auckland ratepayers to the Property Council is more than $330,000 in the last six years. Reacting to the news, Carmel Claridge, a Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson says:
“To be an independent voice for property owners the Property Council should commit to stop taking money from the Council. How can it hold the Council to account when it would be biting the hand that feeds it?”
“It’s bad enough that councillors are happy to spend our money for the Property Council to be their sock-puppet. What makes it worse is the tolerance of the other Property Council members which allows this cozy deal to happen.”
“Here at the Ratepayers’ Alliance we don’t take a cent from the Council, or any public bodies. We are 100% funded by the people we represent and serve – the ratepayers of Auckland.”
