Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk for heart health

April 11, 2016 Media release

Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk for heart health is back

The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk will once again be taking place in Wellington, with women from all around the region preparing to walk and run their way through Mother’s Day on May 8.

The event, which begins at the new location of Wellington Waterfront at 9.30am, follows a 5 kilometre route. It is part of a nationwide initiative run by Jennian Homes to support the Heart Foundation’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign, which aims to improve the heart health of New Zealand females.

Heart disease is the single biggest killer of women, taking the lives of over 50 each week in this country. As a proud supporter of ‘Go Red for Women’, Jennian Homes is committed to working with the Heart Foundation to reduce this alarming statistic, and will be giving $20,000 to the charity to support women’s heart health, as a result of the Mother’s Day events.

Belinda Barber of Jennian Homes Wellington says: “Community wellness and the health of all New Zealanders is very important to us and we are proud to support the Heart Foundation’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign through the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk.

“It is a great event and an incredibly fun way to spend Mother’s Day, and we encourage as many women as possible in the Wellington region to register and show support for women’s heart health.

“Registrations close on May 3rd so make sure you register online ASAP.”

Jennian Homes Wellington is hoping for 500 entrants to beat last year’s attendance, where an impressive field of women took part in the local event, and more than 7,000 participated nationally.

Gerry Devlin, Medical Director for the Heart Foundation, says: “The Heart Foundation is thrilled to have Jennian Homes’ support for our annual ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign once again. Heart disease is often thought to be a male problem, but it’s the number-one killer of women both in New Zealand and globally. In fact, Kiwi women are four times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer, a largely unknown fact.

“Jennian Homes is a loyal, longstanding partner of the Heart Foundation, helping to raise much-needed funds for heart health research. Since the Heart Foundation began, it has invested more than $55m into research and cardiology training, which has a direct impact on saving lives.”

To add an extra special touch for 2016, all entrants will receive the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk official t-shirts featuring a design by iconic New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell.

Jennian Homes business development manager Aidan Jury says:

“Tasked with the job of creating an awesome t-shirt design runners would be proud to wear, we got thinking ‘How can we make it collectable and recognisably New Zealand?’ Dick Frizzell instantly came to mind. We got in touch and the answer was yes. We are proud and delighted the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk t-shirts will be featuring his design.”

This year Wellington primary schools will also have an opportunity to benefit from the healthy heart message, with the chance to win $2,500 worth of Rebel Sport vouchers.

Belinda explains: “When you register for the event online, you can nominate your chosen local school. After registrations have closed, the primary school with the most nominations in the region will win $2,500 of Rebel Sport vouchers to purchase sporting equipment to promote exercise and healthy hearts to their students.”
