The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is slamming today’s decision by Auckland Council to agree to a 2016/2017 budget which would hike rates by six times the level of inflation. Jo Holmes, Spokesperson, says:
“Following on from 9.9% rise last year, this Council is so lacking in leadership it believes to hike rates by six times the level of inflation is ’stability’.”
“Len Brown claims that higher rates are required to fund growth. If that is true, why are we paying so much more on a per capita basis when there should be all these extra ratepayers?”
“This year’s election is going to see a clean out of those who have let Len Brown waste money, hike rates, and run up borrowing so high that the ratings agencies are now circling.”
According to the most recent Ratepayer Briefing Paper on debt, Auckland Council now owes almost $20,000 per Auckland household.
