Council Recommends Public Apology to Maori Trust Board
Council Recommends Public Apology to Maori Trust Board Following 1080 Poison Article
Waikato Regional Council determined in its Public Excluded, Extraordinary Meeting on Tuesday the 10th of May “THAT Councillor Graf issue a written public apology to Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board.”
For any unintended offence that Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board may have taken with regard to the headline of the press release "Maori Trust Boards Give Tick to Drop 1080 Poison Directly into Water", I apologise. I hope there will be an opportunity to discuss the issues that Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board has raised, sometime in the near future.
I believe it's important for all councillors to ask questions and raise concerns if they believe there are shortfalls in information-sharing and consultation processes - and it's important that this can happen without the prospect of them losing their committee chair or committee membership.
Ratepayers, trust boards, and stakeholders have the right to be provided with balanced and accurate information when consultation is undertaken.
I stand by
the facts presented in the press release, and its accuracy.
Clyde Graf – Councillor - Waikato Regional Council
