International agency ups WDC credit rating
Whangarei District Council’s credit rating has been boosted from AA- to ‘AA’ by international credit rating agency Standard and Poors.
“This is great affirmation of the approach Whangarei District Council has taken taking to its financial management in this term,” said Mayor Sheryl Mai.
“It proves that Whangarei District Council set a strong strategy in its Long Term Plan and has stuck to it.
“Standard and Poors is an internationally recognised company providing an independent assessment of our financial stability, and made particular note of Council’s “very strong financial management and strong budgetary performance”.
“The AA rating puts us in the top tier of NZ councils and is the same rating as the New Zealand government’s. It reflects our sound financial position which is supported by our commitment to a clear financial strategy,” Mayor Mai said.
“It is good news and something we should all be proud of.”
