Northland Regional Council Wins 2016 Project of the Year

Northland Regional Council has been awarded 2016 ALGIM Web and Digital Project of the Year at the ALGIM Annual Web and Digital Awards in Wellington.

Their project, "Fight against the Mediterranean Fanworm", a new technology solution against the pest, took out the top prize of the evening, beating out entries from across the country. The judges commented that the project showed, "great innovation from a tech point of view, with its automatically updating systems ensuring efficiency and value for the Council. The impressive use of teamwork demonstrated by this project was also a significant strength. Tracey Morris, who also won the night's 2016 Professional Development Award, accepted on behalf on the Council team.

"Teamwork in this project was huge, so it really was a collaborative project," says Morris. "Thank you to all of those who were involved, this is on their behalf."

Coming in as a close first runner up was Auckland City Council with their 'My Time' professional reviewing system, which was praised for its customer-centric approach and high staff usage success.

Also celebrating was Christchurch City Council, who were awarded the 2016 ALGIM Best Use of Social Media or App Award for 'Snap, Send, Solve', a service for highlight city spots in need of improvement.

Northland earned another feather in their cap taking second place for their on-the-ground officer-run Biosecurity Month campaign.

ALGIM offered its congratulations to all the award-winning Councils for their significant achievements.

ALGIM serves the entirety of the New Zealand Local Government ICT sector, with all 78 Councils as members. The Annual Web and Digital Awards highlight the best and innovative projects within our country in order to further develop the sector as a global leader in information management.
