Gizzy Food Week at the Alfred Cox Skate Park
The LJ Hooker International Street Food Festival is all set to go ahead on Friday 1st July kicking off the Gizzy Food Week at the Alfred Cox Skate Park.
With co-operation between event organiser Amy Spence and the support of Hauora Tairawhiti and Gisborne District Council, the food festival will carry on despite a declined application for a special liquor license.
‘While it is very disappointing to not have the license granted, we are extremely happy the event will go ahead with the backing of the community and the support of all our very loyal sponsors. It is because of this the LJ Hooker International Street Food Festival and Sequence Skate Jam will still go ahead. We are now full-steam ahead organising the final event details,’ says Ms Spence.
“Hauora Tairāwhiti has agreed to step in to support the event now it is alcohol free."
The LJ Hooker International Street Food Festival will coincide with the Sequence Skate Jam competition, which will show case some of New Zealand’s best skating talent, which has a strong application to be accepted as an event in the 2020 Olympics. This will pair top quality sporting entertainment with some of the best food, in a family friendly environment.
“This event is worth supporting and we want to help where we can…” said Council’s Environmental and Regulatory Group Manager, Kevin Strongman. “It’s a great event for Gisborne and we’re pleased to support it.”
‘As organiser’s, the Gizzy Food Week team are really excited to bring this one-off national skate competition to Gisborne and combine it with their own passion for Street Food. We can’t wait to see the park in action including a demo New Zealand’s top vert ramp skaters’.
