Queenstown’s newest dining experience is ‘all fired up’
Queenstown’s newest dining experience is ‘all fired up’ to open this week
Occupying a beautifully refurbished building in Queenstown’s bustling centre, Coalfire Barbecue Restaurant and Bar will open on Friday (15th July 2016).
Long-established hospitality group, Wai Dining Group, have spent six weeks renovating the historic Eureka House in the Mall and developing a unique menu that’s ‘flavored by fire’.
There’s over sixty items on the all-day menu, inspired by pit masters and kitchens from around the globe. The dishes will carry a distinctive smoky flavour that comes from being cooked ‘low and slow’ over hot coals.
Wai Group Co-Owner and Director Jan Rae said that the dishes will be “robust and packed with flavor.”
“Expect maple glazed pork belly and beef brisket that’s been rubbed and slow cooked for 14 hours in the pit. From the Coal Oven there’ll be T-bone steaks and crayfish with a smoky mornay sauce.”
“I’m particularly excited about the jalapeno poppers on the Bar Snack menu and the hand cut chips smothered in anchovy butter – these have to be tried to be believed.”
Careful thought has gone into the restoration of the 151-year-old building; the new furniture, carpets and décor have been selected to complement the ancient schist walls.
The renovation was led by Bamford Macleod’s Jeff Long and Andy MacLeod.
“They have been brilliant to work with and have managed to find a solution to the surprises an old building throws at you,” says Ms Rae.
Featuring two hand-built Smokers and a Spanish style charcoal oven, the kitchen will be operated under the expert guidance of Head Chef Steredenn Tregoat, who’s worked with Wai Group’s popular Italian restaurant Bella Cucina for six years.
Wai Dining Group has owned and operated restaurants in Queenstown since 2001. Bella Cucina, seafood bar and grill Finz and vibrant waterfront dining spot Public are all part of group.
Coalfire Restaurant and Bar will open to the public for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late evening gatherings as scheduled from 8am on Friday 15th July 2016.
