An interesting candidate Louise James is putting her name forward to stand for the New Plymouth District Council with the slogan, “The People’s Advocate”. The editorial in the paper yesterday asked for “…strong, diverse and interesting candidates to put their names forward.”
Diversity is a key element of her campaign suggesting that “it is with a diversity of thinking that great solutions are found.” She has an interesting background in health and education and was once employed by Women’s Health Action as a national Breastfeeding Advocate.
She doesn’t think that she needs to have an agenda to be on council “I am passionate about the people” she says. “Being an advocate frees me from fixed thought and allows me to have an open mind to endless possibilities.”
“My role as the people’s advocate will be to actively listen to the people that make up the City Ward and put their views forward, so that the whole council can hear the many and diverse voices that are out there.”
Tomorrow the New Plymouth District Council is hosting an information meeting which James is eager to attend. She has read material from the website and watched videoed council meetings, “but to be face to face with the people of the organisation is something I am looking forward to” says James.
