Art and science collaborate in new experimental exhibition

Hamilton, New Zealand - August 1, 2016 Art and science are set to collide in ‘The Waikato Matrix’, an experimental project from Wintec researchers Joe Citizen, Jason Long, Gert Hattingh and Andy Fendall. It is designed to raise questions about artificial intelligence and create a feedback loop between attendees and the environment they find themselves in through an interactive, electronic installation.

The event is the first of it’s kind in the Hamilton arts scene and will be an experience for the whole city to enjoy.

“None of us are entirely sure what’s going to happen - we’re certainly in unusual territory here,” says creator Joe Citizen.

“It’s an experiment from a programming perspective as well as an arts perspective, and I’m very lucky to be working with such a high calibre of people on such an exciting project.”

The Waikato Matrix will be held at the Meteor Theatre, Hamilton, with an official opening at 7:30pm on Tuesday 9 August. It will be open to public viewing on the Wednesday and Thursday, 3-8pm. Admission is free.

The Waikato Matrix will run in conjuction with Spark International Festival of Music, Media, Art and Design. Spark Festival is an annual celebration of the arts and brings creative industry leaders from around New Zealand and the world together for a week of presentations, workshops, exhibitions and events.
