Kaicycle food waste bicycle collection service
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Introducing Kaicycle, the newest arm of the workerBe oasis ecosystem.
Kaicycle is a food waste bicycle collection service, pedalling people’s food scraps into compost.
Food reCyclists collect organic waste from residents and businesses in the CBD which want to be environmentally friendly but don't have access to composting facilities.
The company has just been through Wellington City Council’s Low Carbon Challenge to validate their proposition and prepare for scaling.
Kaicycle spokeswoman Jen Cooper says the event presented some amazing challenges and networking opportunities.
“The challenge has been helpful to launch our Pledgeme campaign to build a bike shelter at our farm,” she said.

workerBe oasis is a local society that takes underutilized land and grows local food for local people.
So far 600 kg of food has been grown in the seminal garden since planting in November 2015, half of which goes to Kaibosh to give to people in need of help.
Erin Todd of workerBe says the urban farm grows and distributes organic, nutrient-dense, yummy veges across our city.
“At the oasis we're growing this social enterprise by teaching everyone how to develop their own food systems,” she says. “We owe it to future generations to build a world in which they can thrive.”
Oasis gardener at the farm, Linnea Lindstrom, teaches bio intensive growing techniques adapted for urban spaces, something she has been doing for 15 years.
“Every Sunday at 1pm there is volunteer time to come visit 5 Hospital Rd and muck in,” she said. “Collaboratively connecting with the community is the real ideal.”
