Kaipara Air Weapons Range Off-Limits Over Labour Weekend
The Royal New Zealand Air Force Kaipara Air Weapons Range at South Head will be active over Labour Weekend while the New Zealand Army conducts a standard training exercise.
During the exercise the range will be unsafe to the public and access will not be permitted.
To ensure public safety the Trig Road gate will be closed from 8am on Saturday, 22 October, to midday on Sunday, 23 October. During that time there will be no access to the Waionui Inlet. Access to the weapons range area along Muriwai Beach will also be prohibited.
The exercise will include the use of high-explosive mortar ammunition, which will be fired from 8am until 6pm daily. Locals might hear explosions during this period.
It is important that Army, Navy and Air Force personnel conduct training exercises regularly. The training ensures their skills remain current so they can respond capably to requests from the New Zealand Government at any time.
The NZDF would like to thank its neighbours in Kaipara for their ongoing support.
