Helicopter crash north of Whangarei

The wreckage of a commercial helicopter has been located in Glenbervie Forest, north of Whangarei.
The aircraft’s distress beacon activation was received at the Rescue Coordination Centre NZ shortly after 1pm and the Whangarei-based rescue helicopter reached the scene just after 2pm.
The helicopter is a Robinson R44.
RCCNZ search and rescue mission coordinator John Ashby said the response had now been handed to the Police.
