Fairfax Media Apologises for Lack of Communication

FAIRFAX MEDIA APOLOGISES FOR LACK OF COMMUNICATION

Fairfax Media has this morning contacted the NZ People’s Party regarding their exclusion of Roshan Nauhria from their candidates debate to be held this evening in Mt Roskill. They confirmed that Mr Nauhria will not be included based on an editorial decision that only candidates from parties that received more than 10% of the party vote in the 2014 general election would be invited to participate. They have however invited him to be included in their candidate coverage which will include live interviews on their Facebook pages and profiles in their community paper publication the Central Leader.

The New Zealand People’s Party had previously asked Fairfax Media to reconsider but had received no further communication prompting Mr Nauhria to take legal advice as to his options with the recent case of Craig v Mediaworks Ltd [2014] NZHC 1875 being sighted as setting a possible precedent. “I looked at all my options but in the end Fairfax did the right thing and apologised for not getting back to us and has invited us to have a conversation. I’m looking forward to their questions and thank them for giving us the opportunity to let their readers learn more about what I am working to achieve in Mt Roskill”.

Fairfax Media did invite Mr Nauhria to attend the debate as a guest tonight, however Mr Nauhria has politely declined, instead he will be meeting a group of students due to protest at the event. “If people want to hear what the other candidates have to say that’s great, but I’m more interested to hear what the people of Mt Roskill have got to say. Listening to them and helping communicate their needs is how we are going to change Mt Roskill for the better”.
