A day of family fun at the seaside

Eastbourne ready to welcome thousands for a day of family fun at the seaside

Eastbourne village is gearing up to welcome thousands of people from across the Wellington region to the biennial Eastbourne Carnival on Sunday 27 November.

The festival will be fun for the whole family with rides, entertainment, food, market stalls, and a kids costume parade.

Up to 20,000 people are expected to enjoy the day.

There will be live music all day, bouncy castles and bumper ball rides for children, and all kinds of food from around the world.

The theme for the kids costume parade is ‘We can be heroes’. Any child of school age is encouraged to come dressed as their hero, and take part in a parade around the main stage. The first prize is a Rave portable bluetooth speaker, and there are lots of other prizes for creative outfits.

The carnival organising committee is made up of parents from Muritai School, but the event involves the whole Eastbourne community. Three roads will be closed for market stalls on the day.

Students from Muritai’s senior school are organising the sale of secondhand toys at the carnival. Proceeds from the toy sale will go to KidsCan charity.

Maureen Buckley, acting Muritai School principal says: “Our carnival is at the start of the summer festival season. Our point of difference is that we have a unique location by the sea, and we’re focussed on providing a fantastic family day out.

“The carnival is a great chance to get some Christmas shopping done at the quality market stalls in the village, or find a bargain in the secondhand books, toys, and clothes stalls in the school classrooms.
