USAR teams deploy
An seven-person Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) squad from Christchurch is currently on its way to Kaikoura by helicopter to assist following this morning’s earthquake.
The team is due to arrive in Kaikoura shortly to begin work.
Two further assessment teams have been deployed, one to Waiau and one to Blenheim.
In addition, assistance has been offered to the National Crisis Management Centre, and the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office, both of which have been activated.
Two New Zealand Fire Service command units will also provide potential coordination of assessment teams as needed.
